New Plymouth UFB expo offering free workshops for all
Thu, 11th Feb 2016
FYI, this story is more than a year old

New Plymouth's budding young game designers can get free tuition at a two-day Beyond Broadband expo running next week, with free workshops also available for educators, parents, businesses and consumers.

The expo is being run by local fibre company Ultrafast Fibre, and includes a range of workshops designed to highlight ways UFB can be harnessed for business, educational and personal benefits.

Ultrafast Fibre says the Create Your Own Game workshop for primary and intermediate students aged eight to 14 years is just one example of how ultrafast fibre can enable new opportunities for New Plymouth residents.

Students will receive two hours of free tuition and hands on experience in basic coding and game development in the workshop, the first of a series of free workshops being held throughout the expo.

The Create Your Own Game workshop will be lead by game creator, Gamefroot, which has online game creation software for elearning.

Other workshops will include The Age of e-learning, where parents of school children, and education professionals can hear how to capitalise on the benefits offered by UFB – and what career options will evolve for students and what should be considered to enable strong career prospects for today's students.

William Hamilton, Ultrafast Fibre chief executive, says “We want to encourage everyone across [New Plymouth] to understand the benefits of being connected to the fibre network.

“The Beyond Broadband Expo will show the New Plymouth community first hand just how UFB can transform the way they communicate, work and play online.

Hamilton says the expo will include ‘something for everyone', from the computer novice wanting to easily connect with family overseas, to the tech wiz wanting to experience everything that a world-class broadband connection has to offer.
