Waiuku 17th New Zealand town to get ultra fast broadband
Thu, 19th May 2016
FYI, this story is more than a year old

The ultra-fast-broadband (UFB) transformation is complete in the Waikato town of Waiuku, with the potential to connect over 3628 homes, schools and businesses. As of March 31 2016, 539 of these were connected to the UFB network.

Five schools with more than 1600 students are also now connected to the Managed Network for Learning:

  • Sandspit Road School
  • TKKM o Waiuku
  • View Road School
  • Waiuku College
  • Waiuku Primary School

The rollout, which began in July 2013, has taken two and half years to complete.

Amy Adams, Communications Minister says "Waiuku now has access to faster broadband, as well as the economic and social benefits this will bring. It's also the first completed UFB town in the Auckland build.

Across New Zealand, the rollout of UFB is making steady progress and over 921,000 households, businesses, schools and hospitals are able to connect.

I would like to congratulate Chorus on Auckland's UFB build now reaching 50 per cent."
