Kiwi startup impresses at Demo conference

FYI, this story is more than a year old

No-one ever wants to go first when presenting to a room full of people, but that was the slot kiwi company TranscribeMe drew for their alpha pitch to the Demo Asia startup conference, held in Singapore last week.

However, company founder Alexei Dunayev (pictured with TranscribeMe Asia managing director Chengxi Tang) soon had the audience impressed when he announced he would be offering transcripts of every other pitch at the conference, for free, via his company’s forthcoming mobile app.

Scheduled for launch in the middle of this year, the TranscribeMe app has a 98% accuracy rate, and operates through a cloud-based crowdsourcing system that keeps costs down, allowing TranscribeMe to charge much less than current competitors.

SG Entrepreneurs writer Terence Lee described Dunayev’s pitch as ‘among the most promising ones’ at the conference.

"Alexei and his team is definitely on to something here,” Lee writes.

"They’ll be able to generate revenue quickly, and hopefully get some funding for expansion.”

This was the first time the Demo event had been held in Asia; TranscribeMe attended with the help of Microsoft’s BizSpark startup resourcing programme.
