Callaghan Innovation seeks new incubators to grow tech start-ups
Wed, 18th Dec 2013
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Callaghan Innovation has issued a request for expressions of interest to expand New Zealand’s network of business incubators.

“We’re looking for new business incubators to focus on supporting and growing New Zealand-based technology start-ups,” says Russell O'Brien, Incubator Support Programme Manager.

“The technology sector has huge potential for New Zealand.

“Our universities and research institutes are coming up with quite a range of exciting intellectual property (IP).

"To benefit New Zealand, we need more business incubators offering specialist skills and expertise to transform this IP into fledging technology businesses and get it to market faster.”

Callaghan Innovation’s Incubator Support Programme goes to the heart of its purpose to accelerate New Zealand business by commercialising innovation.

Responses to the call for expressions of interest will help Callaghan Innovation develop a request for proposal early next year and to refine the design of a pilot for a technology-focused business incubator programme that is scheduled to begin in July.

Approved technology-focused incubators will be able to apply for a new kind of repayable grant on behalf of technology start-ups they are supporting.

Parties interested in forming technology-focused incubators can download the EOI from Callaghan Innovation’s website or by logging onto the GETS website and searching for reference code 41097.
