Intergen and NV Interactive win global recognition for public safety app

A cross-platform mobile application for New Zealand Fire and Emergency garnered Intergen and NV Interactive finalist status in the recent Microsoft Partner Awards

The offering, which ‘reimagines’ the first responder experience and provides a user-centred mobility tool designed by firefighters for firefighters, was one of four finalists in the Public Safety and National Security Partner of the Year category in the global awards, ultimately won by Canadian IP video surveillance, access control and license plate recognition solutions vendor Genetec.

The offering takes a mobile first, cloud first approach, leveraging Xamarin, Visual Studio, Azure, XTC and Mobile DevOps, to support national fire and emergency service organsations across New Zealand with 1200 volunteers and 3,000 career firefighters and staff.

Simon Bright, Intergen chief executive, says it was an honour to be recognised on the world stage for the work for Fire and Emergency New Zealand with NV Interactive.

“The Mobile Responder App is a true example of life-saving mobile technology, helping firefighters get the right information at the right time, on any device, wherever they are,” Bright says.

“We are very proud to have played a part in Fire and Emergency New Zealand’s digital transformation journey as they embrace mobile first technologies that will help firefighters respond in the most timely, effective way in time critical situations and, ultimately, improve the lives of New Zealand.”

Matt Pickering, NV Interactive managing director, says the finalist status is ‘real validation of the perfect marriage of form and function delivered by our user-centric design approach’.

“Through their desire to fundamentally transform the first responder experience, and ultimately save lives, the Fire Service truly embraced a user-centred design process based on lean UX principles, including user research, team collaboration, rapid prototyping and goal driven design,” Pickering says.

“It was a true partnership between NV’s UX and visual designers, the technical delivery team from Intergen and the incredibly passionate team from fire service.”
