Kiwi reseller snaffles Aussie business

FYI, this story is more than a year old

Auckland-based technology reseller MiIT is looking to expand permanently into Australia after landing deals with two clients across the ditch.

Robert Elcombe, director of MiIT, says both the clients had previously run separate operations in Australia and New Zealand, and were looking to move to a single, more efficient ordering system.

"New Zealand has come through as the preferred choice as the unified place to place their orders,” Elcombe says.

"We were quite pleased with that.”

Based on this success and other positive responses from potential clients, Elcombe is looking at establishing a presence in Australia ‘within the year', first in Melbourne, where the two clients are based, then in other Australian cities.

"It's very early days but it's on the horizon,” Elcombe says.

Asked what size each team will be, Elcombe says, ‘Scary'.

"In New Zealand we have four to six full-timers and a number of consultants. I'd say the team in Australia is likely to far exceed that per city we establish in.

"The interest we've had in our services is such that we have a strong feeling we could hit all seven cities fairly rapidly.”

The interest in the company is driven by demand for a ‘one stop shop' IT offering, Elcombe says.

"We do a fully managed service... lots of people are offering virtual services and cloud computing solutions, but not many people are doing everything under one roof.

"It means when something goes wrong it's one call to fix it, it's not A blaming B blaming C and the client's stuck in the middle with no solution.”
