Kordia partnership extends the telco into security

FYI, this story is more than a year old

Local telco Kordia is launching a new cloud based web security solution. Kordia has teamed up with Blue Coat Systems to launch the cloud based offering using the Blue Coat WebPulse technology to deliver dynamic, real-time protection from online threats.

The new offering, OnKor Web Security, utilises Kordia’s network to host a Blue Coat cloud service point of presence, which enables customers to leverage the Software as a Service delivery model.

Drew Gilpin, Kordia general manager, says IT security is one of the biggest challenges facing businesses today. "Whether you’re a large corporate or an SME, with more employees bringing devices from home and accessing social media sites like Facebook at the workplace, it’s vital to have a robust IT security solution in place to protect your data,” he says.

Gilpin says the partnership is a continuation of the Kordia’s strategy to create solutions with market-leading vendors, noting Blue Coat serves more than 15,000 customers worldwide, including 85% of Fortune Global 500 companies.

"The pedigree and history of Blue Coat really says it all. They have a cutting-edge service which we are excited to be bringing to New Zealand businesses,” Gilpin says.

The cloud service utilises the Blue Coat WebPulse collaborative defence service, which delivers real-time analysis and ratings to categorise web content and protect more than 75 million users worldwide from web-based malware and other malicious threats.

Web content filtering makes it easy for IT departments to ensure employee usage policies are closely and consistently followed.

The offering includes Granular web 2.0 application controls, enabling users to access popular social sites like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube for business reasons, while enabling IT manager to block specific unwanted activities – such as gaming or media transfers – within the sites.

Policy management and reporting facilities give administrators control for both broad and detailed policies, while online and real time web activity reports are also available and can be run by user, group or across the entire company.

Kordia says in addition to its New Zealand based service, Blue Coat data centers are spread around the world, leading to benefits in resilience, performance and support for roaming users.

Bruce Bennie, Blue Coat managing director for Australia and New Zealand, says Koria was the perfect partner to launch with in the New Zealand market. "Kordia was an obvious fit for us because this is a mission critical security service, and Kordia customers already look to them for mission critical connectivity. This new offering from Kordia is ideal for New Zealand businesses that want enterprise-grade web security but don’t want to manage their own equipment,” he says.

Kordia says the solution is suitable for medium to large enterprises, without the need to install or update appliances, servers or user desktops.
