New Facebook, Messenger and Instagram apps coming to Windows 10
Wed, 4th May 2016
FYI, this story is more than a year old

Microsoft recently announced a fleet of apps designed specifically for Windows 10 from the social media heavyweights.

Designed to run quickly and easily within Windows 10 while maintaining the most up-to-date features, the apps from Facebook, Messenger and Instagram (technically just the one social media heavyweight then) will be revolutionary for Windows 10 users.

Facebook

The whole idea of the release is to make keeping up with your friends faster than ever, and Microsoft claims it is “the best way to experience Facebook on Windows.

It includes features such as Live Tiles, which means you can easily find out what your friends and family are up to just with a glance. Reading and sharing articles from the News Feed is also much quicker and easier with an in-app browser. Other features include Reactions, stickers in comments, notifications so that you don't miss important updates and a right-hand column that shows birthday, event reminders and trending topics.

Messenger

The popular features of Messenger – like photo sharing, stickers, group conversations and GIFs – are included in Messenger for Windows 10. For PCs, it also has desktop notifications so you never miss an important message. It also provides you with the ability to be notified of new messages with Live Tiles when the app is pinned to your start menu.

Instagram

The Windows 10 Instagram app is being rolled out with all of the ‘grammers' favourite features like Direct Messaging, updated Search and Explore, Videos and Account Switching. Not to mention that it will also support Live Tiles, so when pinned to your home screen you'll get notifications right on your start screen.

The apps are available on the Windows Store via free download, and the team at Microsoft say that there will be more great features and experiences coming soon – stay tuned.
