Will MYOB gain a competitive edge with its API program?
Tue, 24th Feb 2015
FYI, this story is more than a year old

MYOB, the software provider, has announced its API program is 2,000 API developer partners strong after two years, when MYOB introduced an API for its flagship product AccountRight followed by Essentials.

Currently the MYOB network has more than 150 add-on solutions, and the company says it's focused on ensuring add on partners contribute to 'making business life easier' for small businesses in Australia and New Zealand.

“We're delighted with the strong and growing network of API partners that we have attracted,” says James Scollay, MYOB SME Solutions general manager.

He says, “The MYOB API program achieves two great outcomes that can only be enabled by cloud accounting technology.

“Firstly, the MYOB API program provides our small business customers with access to integrated end-to-end business management solutions that can transform their business and were previously only available to large enterprises.

“Secondly, the MYOB API program encourages and supports innovation by providing a platform upon which technology entrepreneurs can launch and grow their businesses.

“This allows them to leverage what is often limited funding for start-ups because they can join our API program for free and easily integrate using our world class APIs and the instantly access the users of our software.

MYOB launched its API program in March 2013, starting with an API for its flagship cloud accounting solution AccountRight.

“We have such a comprehensive set of functions that range across business management and accounting so we really prioritise in ensuring that our add-on solutions are feature enhancements, rather than gap fillers.

"That's really important for our API program, and part of the reason we are so successful,” says Scollay.

The API is available for use with any programming language and any platform, such as Mac and Windows, including devices running iOS, Android and Windows Mobile operating systems.

The developer program, which offers three levels of membership to suit different needs, is open and free to anyone wanting to create and integrate add-on solutions for MYOB clients.
